Mr. Hamma Hammami, President of the Tunisian Communist [Worker’s} Party (PCOT) affirmed that the meeting held on Sunday [July, 2] was legal. He declared by phone to TAP:” We have the permit that we obtained from the National Guard”.
This declaration is a reaction to the claims of an official in the Interior Ministry, who declared that the PCOT’s meeting was in violation with the law n°4 of 1969. The law regulates public meetings, and order the organisation of public meeting to demand an authorization 3 days in advance.
The last meeting of the PCOT sparked so many controversies when a group of Salafists attacked the assembly of PCOT members, partisans, and supporters. In a press conference held one day after the attack, Mr. Hammami, put the blame on the Interior Ministry for such attacks.
