The commemoration of the International Workers Day, has today, in our country, a singular importance to the referendum called by the Presidency of the Republic for May 7, which causes an important debate about whether or not to allow Rafael Correa take full and direct control of the organs of justice, as is the central purpose of the proposed referendum, the scandalous nomination process for the new Attorney General’s Office. It tries to favor Galo Chiriboga (attorney for the Correa family and official of this government) is a clear demonstration of his intentions to lay his hands on the law.
During this process the Ecuadorian society is experiencing a political polarization between those who approve of the government’s intention and those who denounce it as undemocratic, unconstitutional and dangerous. In the midst of an uneven electoral competition in which the government is illegally involved with great material and economic resources of the state and the activity of authorities and obedient servants, the popular forces that advocate voting NO, we made our way and we won positions throughout the nation, to the point that the possibility of its success is a reality publicly acknowledged by government officials and some pollsters.
NO has grown throughout the country as the undemocratic and authoritarian attitudes of Rafael Correa are unquestionable and cause popular rejection to increase, because thousands of Ecuadorians who voted for Correa in the last election disapprove of the rightist government, they feel betrayed and want to put a stop to this effort to concentrate power. He does not win adherents among the thousands of people that are opposed to blackmail and fear, they know that voting is secret and therefore may not be punished with dismissal from their posts in public administration or the elimination of benefits. The bond of poverty is a threat to the government. The NO vote is gaining ground among those who refuse to prosecute and imprison women and girls because they think differently to the President. NO progresses because they bind to it who are tired of hearing insults and threats in chains on Saturday. It is growing among those who do not agree with spending millions of dollars on government propaganda while in hospitals newborns are cared for in cardboard boxes and in other cases infants lose life. In short, the reasons are many.
The growth of NO is undeniable. Correa knows this, as well as the puppets that act on the National Electoral Council that do nothing to prevent the series of illegalities committed by the Government in this campaign. The CNE, as the National Assembly or the Council of Citizen Participation is an instrument of Correa, does not guarantee the purity of suffrage and its results. We note that several mechanisms in place for the elections of May 7 show the intent to commit electoral fraud to favor the government proposal, which we reject and call our people to prevent, to ensure a convincing win of NO.
Rafael Correa has completely betrayed the longing for change that Ecuadorians voted for two years ago. He is given to the interests of powerful economic groups and right-wing politicians who remain silent about the ongoing process because Correa has endorsed the proposals raised by them from some years ago. But demagoguery continues: efforts at political manipulation, welfare policy intensifies the poverty of thousands of compatriots, is a show to contradict the Yankees.
But when their agent, Hillary Clinton, was in our country, he said openly he was not anti-capitalist or anti-imperialist. While at the same time maintaining a series of military agreements with the United States he claims to be “democratic” and a supporter of the “citizen participation,” all the while criminalizing social protest to the point that more than 200 compatriots faced lawsuits for sabotage and terrorist action. Others have been sanctioned (Marcelo Rivera and eight peasants of the canton Nabón-Azuay), which has not happened before in our country.
Compañeros (as) employees (as),
In these four years Correa has done nothing to shore up the prevailing capitalist system, the proclaimed “citizens’ revolution” and “XXI century socialism” are reformist bourgeois projects, full of liberal content and do not in any way resemble a real revolutionary process.
In this May 1, the Marxist Leninist Communist Party of Ecuador (PCMLE) reiterates its commitment to continue his fight for the triumph of the revolution and socialism, that is, to build the society of workers. Between the proposal of the revolutionary left, to put an end to capitalism, and developmental-reformist project of Correa, is a great distance and difference.
The latter wants to keep capitalism, i.e., the power of the bourgeoisie and the rule of capital, whereas our objective is to bring to an end, so we are in different camps, so we face each other in this political and electoral process.
PCMLE greets the workers and people around the world who struggle for freedom from oppression and exploitation. In particular, we raise our flags in solidarity with the peoples of Africa and the Middle East. We see that the people in the streets have defeated authoritarian governments like those of Ben Ali (Tunisia) and Hosni Mubarak (Egypt) and the peoples of other countries such as Libya, Yemen Algeria, Syria, Barheim, who persist in their struggle against dictatorial governments. We condemn the NATO military intervention in Libya and demand respect for the right to self-determination of peoples. We proclaim our solidarity with the Palestinian people against Israeli Zionism, our support to the Bolivian people facing unpopular measures applied by a reformist government and demagoguery.
Only the social revolution will end the rule of the bourgeoisie and imperialism.
For the new homeland and socialism!
